Change spotlights
-
I'm going to skip the part of whether it is legal for yourself to change a spotlight, as it may be legal in your country (it's not in mine). I will still say that if you do plan to change any electrical components yourself (even if next year), please be careful and always turn off the correct fuse before starting.
While some spotlights come with KNX integrated, I would say those are exceedingly rare (relatively speaking). More commonly if the lights are dimmable, they will use DALI through a KNX/DALI gateway. If you had a DALI system, you might need to configure the new spotlight, as they are addressable and groupable (zones etc.). I'll move on from this, as you say your future home do not have dimmable lights.
The good news: So in your case, all spotlights are seemingly controlled by relays, and those only turn off and on via switching the wire to the spotlight(s) off and on. That means you can swap spotlights without any configuration being required, as long as you wire them the same.
Congratulations on your new home!

Hi Alexander,
Thank you for you prompt answer. Indeed, in my country electrical changes are allowed, but limited to installing and removing lamps and their associated switches, but only for my own home.
But coming back to one specific comment you made "groupable". We have several zones where we groups those spotlights, e.g.:
- 2 groups in the kitchen
- 1 group for the hallway
- and then literally 1 or 2 zones in every room including the bathrooms
As we clarified earlier, all recessed spotlights are not dimmable, just ON/OFF.
So, If I have in the kitchen in zone 1 four spotlights and one needs to be replaced. Would I still be able to replace the spotlight? All under the assumption that no KNX/DALI gateway is in use. I am also aware that you might need further details to give me a fully qualified answer.
Many thanks in Advance for your reply!

The groupable comment was only if the lights were on DALI. Since they are not dimmable, they are likely on relays like mentioned. And then it matters little how they are grouped together. You are still able to swap them out without any configuration.

many thanks for your swift feedback. will most likely discuss with my electrician how it will work.

Hello Sir,
As most of KNX system devices, the systems is controling on KNX components not the load directly, so changing the light should not affect the configuration even for the DALI no need to change the light unless the driver is affected and replace at this point new driver need to be configured.
