Enhancement Request – Building View Functions & Group Address Naming
Dear KNX Community,
I would like to suggest several improvements to the Building View functionality in ETS to enhance project clarity and engineering efficiency.
Expand Predefined Building Functions
It would be highly beneficial to develop and include more predefined function types within Building Parts.
Each function should come ready with all its related Group Addresses (e.g., control, status, feedback, value, alarm where applicable).
This will:

Reduce manual creation time

Improve standardization
-
Minimize programming inconsistencies
Automatic Room Name Prefix in Group Addresses
When adding a new function from the Building View, the automatically generated Group Addresses currently include only the function description (e.g., Switching, Status, Dimming).
It is recommended that the generated Group Addresses automatically include:

The Room Name
-
The Function Name
Example:
LivingRoom – DimmableLight – Switching
This would significantly improve readability and reduce confusion in large-scale projects.
Editable Room Names in Project Wizard
Within the Project Wizard, the created room names should allow flexible editing to distinguish between similar spaces (e.g., Bedroom 1, Bedroom 2, Office A, Office B).
Additionally, all associated Group Addresses should automatically reflect the updated room name to maintain clarity for the programmer.
These enhancements would greatly support system integrators and tutors working on medium and large KNX installations.

Please, let us create custom function templates based off the existing standard Functions to give us the ability to create exactly the group addresses we need, assign some meaningful address structure and address names.

We also need Functions for gates, garage doors, switched wall sockets, door locks etc. Later on, visualization software could use all this metadata do generate UIs easily and automatically just by importing the knxproj.
Plus there needs to be some built-in (easily accessible) process through which partners would be able to suggest often used Function types to be standardized.)

Automatic Room Name Prefix in Group Addresses
At least 6.4.0 adds the Building Function & Building Part columns to the Group Address panel view.
But some parts of the user interface still only work if everything is in the Name field, some at least work with the Description field.
E.g. the Link With… window only supports Name & Description:
"Link with group address" not great with Function-created GAs
Group Address report only shows Names, not Descriptions, Building Function, Building Part:
Same problem with the Groups side panel:
(The Function-based view is on the third tab, but the Recently used tab is limited by the lack of the additional information, again forcing users to shove everything into the address Name field.)

Dear Colleagues,
I have not yet tested the new functionality in ETS 6.4.x. Do you know how many of the above-requested features have been solved in this release?
