This ETS App is always installed and licensed (but not active) in ETS5.
This ETS App - when active or activated - switches ETS5 into the compatibility mode. The compatibility mode forces ETS5 to run as a 32-bit application (or in 32-bit mode) the next time it is started.
ETS5 is able to run as a 32-bit application or as a 64-bit application on a Windows 64-bit operating system (on a 32-bit operating system, 64-bit applications are irrelevant). In the case of 64-bit mode, the ETS5 application (just as is the case with all other 64-bit applications as well) can access the entire memory (RAM) of the computer for its memory operations (provided it is not being used by other applications). A 32-bit application cannot do this because its 32-bit system of addressing the memory can only access a maximum of 4 GB of working memory (2^32). In PCs with more than 4 GB of working memory, the part of the memory exceeding 4 GB cannot be used by a 32-bit application (in real practice, it is less than 4 GB due to other limitations).
Some KNX devices or ETS Apps that require a 32-bit environment for their execution (environment = ETS5 application), need to have the ETS5 application running in 32-bit mode (the compatibility mode). This has primarily to do with all ETS3/4 plug-ins and also ETS Apps that are not explicitly 64-bit capable. In this case, ETS5 must be switched into 32-bit mode through the activation of the compatibility mode.
•The installation of ETS is always made in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder (Windows) regardless of what bit mode ETS is running in (or is supposed to run in). The 64-bit ETS application can also be run from this folder and does not have to be located in the C:\Program Files folder (64-bit Windows). This folder is reserved for strictly 64-bit applications by Windows.
•Because the ETS App compatibility mode is not active after installation, ETS5 is run as a 64-bit application when it is first started.
•Because ETS Apps cannot be run in the ETS DEMO version, the ETS App compatibility mode cannot be activated in the ETS DEMO version. Plug-in devices that require a 32-bit environment can therefore not be used in the ETS DEMO version.
•ETS3/4 is only available as a 32-bit application.
•The creator of an ETS App can define him/herself whether the app is only 32-bit capable or whether it is also 64-bit capable.
