This article covers the following topics:
1. Create a project backup
In order to create a backup of your existing project, tap the 'Backup / Restore' option from the main menu (see picture below)
This will open the 'Backup / Restore' window where you can either create or restore a backup of an ETS Inside project in your ETS Inside. Tap the 'Create Project Backup' button to start the backup process.
As soon as you tap it, you will be prompted to enter a comment for your backup, so that it is easier for you to recognize it later on. This is optional, but it will allow you to quickly pick the correct file. When you are ready, tap the 'Proceed' button in order to continue with the backup process.
As soon as you tap the 'Proceed' button, you will be requested to select the storage drive to save your project backup. Above the list of available storage drives, you can also see the space that is required to save your backup. This is useful to help you select the correct drive having the required capacity.
The functionality to create an ETS Inside project backup can only use backup files that are stored on the main root of a connected drive (e.g. C:\, D:\, etc. and not C:\Backups) to the ETS Inside server. Network drives are not supported. To create a backup of your ETS Inside project, it is suggested to use an external USB hard drive.
Select the desired storage drive by tapping it. Then to continue press the 'Create Backup' button. If no drive is selected, then the 'Create Backup' button remains disabled.
As soon as you tap the 'Create Backup' button, the project backup starts. Depending on the project's size as well as the hardware that is used for the ETS Inside server and the storage drive, the process may last from few seconds until a minute. Once the project backup is completed you will get a confirmation message informing you about it.
In order to restore an ETS Inside project backup, tap the 'Backup / Restore' option from the main menu (see picture below).
An ETS Inside project backup can be restored on any ETS Inside server.
Only ETS Inside project backup files can be restored on ETS Inside server. Other backup files (e.g. from ETS4 cannot be used).
If you would like to restore a project backup, then by tapping the 'Backup / Restore' item you will see the following window. By tapping the 'Restore Project Backup' button, you will start the 'Restore Project Backup' process. If you would like to cancel it and go back to the project overview, you can tap the 'Cancel' button.
If there is already a project available on the ETS Inside server while trying to restore a backup, you will get a warning that your existing project will be overwritten and that you should better create a backup of the existing project first. In case you have already a backup of the existing project or you simply do not care if the project will be overwritten, tap the 'Proceed' button.
As soon as you tap the 'Proceed' button, you will be requested to select the storage drive from which you would like to restore your project backup.
The functionality to restore an ETS Inside project backup can only use backup files that are stored on the main root of a connected drive (e.g. C:\, D:\, etc. and not C:\Backups) to the ETS Inside server. Network drives are not supported.
Simply tap the storage drive that contains the project backup file(s) and if there are any project backups found, then you will see the following:
- List of storage drive(s) that is/are found
- List of project backup(s) that is/are found
- Details of the selected project backup
Once the 'Restore Project' button is tapped, the project restore process starts. As soon as it is successfully completed, the project will be restored and can be edited.
When restoring a project backup, the programming flags of the devices in the project are also restored to the previous state, i.e. the state at the moment of the backup creation. Therefore, it may happen that if you have modified the configuration of a device after a project backup is done and then restored a project backup, the flags are not in the correct state anymore and you will have to modify the configuration of the device and download it again so that the flags are updated.
