ETS Cloud Backup & Restore Functionality
One major feature we would love to see in ETS is a native cloud-based backup and restore option for project files. Currently, all backups have to be done manually to external drives or third-party services. This adds unnecessary risk, especially when projects are handled across multiple engineers and machines.
Losing a .knxproj file due to human error, device failure, or sync issues can set back an entire project. Manual exports are not consistent, and there’s no built-in version history or safety net if something goes wrong.
We’re suggesting a built-in cloud feature that allows projects to be automatically saved to the cloud when closing or saving. Ideally, it would also keep a version history and allow syncing across licensed devices connected to the same MyKNX account. A restore function from the cloud would give us peace of mind in case of hardware loss or file corruption.
This would significantly improve project reliability and help teams work more efficiently. I believe many professional integrators would benefit from this kind of functionality.
Thanks for considering this, and I look forward to hearing the community’s thoughts.

Hi Ahmed, approximately the functionality you desire is already available as a paid ETS app from IT-GmbH.
On that basis I’m not sure if or when it might become a feature included within ETS with no further payment.

Amazing thanks Stephen, I’ve been looking for that solution since a while

You’re welcome!

With the MyKNX cloud integration it would make sense to offer Cloud Archive as a (moderately 🙃) paid service.
Ideally with the ability to share specific projects and/or folders with specific partners (individual or entire organizations).
That would be a huge quality of life improvement.

@Lukáš Polívka, yes this would be good. Even with a kind of security/escrow service where the project can be made accessible to the building owner when confirmation of final payment is received.
One of the big problems with ETS is that all projects reside in an obscure way in the local ProjectStore folder of ETS on the laptop of the engineer - until they remember to put it somewhere safe and sensible, or not...
Another problem is that the .knxproj is often not given to the building owner which causes problems later if the original installer is not available for any reason.2 -

Nice idea!
