A 'download' means that ETS writes into device memory in order to make it function as expected, i.e. to configure it according to the ETS project. The term 'programming' can also be used in this context, i.e. programming = downloading = configuring.
Configuration aspects:
- medium specific settings (e.g. for PL the domain address)
- Individual Address
- Application Program
- PEI Program (not in system 1 devices)
- parameters
- properties (not in system 1 devices)
- Group Addresses
Download Flags
The download flags in the ETS user interface indicate whether a specific configuration aspect has been downloaded into device memory:
- Adr: Individual Address
- Prg: depending on the device type, one or a combination of the following:
- Application Program
- Application Programs (system B and system 7 devices)
- PEI Program
- Par:
- parameters
- properties
- Grp: Group Addresses
- Cfg: medium specific settings (only for PL and RF)
Download variants and their effected download flags
- Full Download: Adr, Prg, Par, Grp, Cfg
- Partial Download: Par, Grp
- Download Individual Address: Adr
- Overwrite Individual Address: Adr
- Download Application: Prg
Remarks:
- Application Program download can take a lot of time, therefore most of the devices are ex-factory delivered with a downloaded Application Program
- 'Application Program' or 'Full' download should only be required once, for any further modification a 'Partial' download should be sufficient -> check the flags in order to be sure
Effects of ETS operations on download flags
- MOVE within 'Topology' view -> resets the 'Adr' flag
- MOVE within 'Buildings' view -> all download flags remain unchanged
- COPY with Paste Special/Extended -> resets all download flags
- an entire line (Topology view)
- a device within Topology view
- a device to another project
- an element from Buildings (room, cabinet, etc.)
- a device from 'Devices' view
- COPY project -> resets all download flags
- COPY project as clone -> all download flags remain unchanged
- project IMPORT -> all download flags remain unchanged
- project EXPORT -> all download flags remain unchanged
Multiple selection
Device download can also be triggered for a selection of devices, examples:
- for a complete floor in the 'Buildings' view -> all devices in that floor will be downloaded
- for a complete middle group in the 'Group Addresses' view -> all associated devices will be downloaded
