KNX certified training centres shall follow specific naming and trademark rules to avoid confusion and to ensure that their name does not suggest that they represent KNX Association or have an exclusive status within a particular geographical area.
Training centre names that are not permitted
A training centre may not use a name consisting solely of, or based primarily on:
- KNX
- KNX Training Centre
- KNX Centre
- KNX Training
- KNX combined with the name of a city, region, country or continent
- KNX Training Centre combined with the name of a city, region, country or continent
- a training centre name containing the word “International”
The same restrictions apply when KNX is replaced by Konnex, EIB or ETS.
For example, names such as the following are not permitted:
- KNX Training Centre Belgium
- KNX Centre Brussels
- KNX Belgium
- International KNX Training Centre
These restrictions ensure that the name of a training centre does not imply an official, exclusive, national or international status that has not been granted by KNX Association.
Training centre names that are permitted
A training centre may combine its own company or organization name with a reference to KNX.
The following combinations are permitted:
- Company name + KNX Training Centre
- Company name + KNX Centre
- Company name + KNX
For example:
- Example Company – KNX Training Centre
- Example Academy – KNX Centre
- Example Company – KNX
Official KNX National Groups may use:
- KNX + country name
Use of the KNX trademark
Permission to use KNX in the name of a certified training centre does not give the training centre ownership or registration rights over the KNX trademark.
A training centre may not register a name, trademark, or company logo that:
- incorporates the KNX trademark;
- contains the letter combination KNX as part of a registered trademark; or
- imitates the KNX trademark.
A training centre that attempts to register the KNX trademark, or an imitation of it, as part of its own trademark or company logo is in breach of the KNX certification requirements.
KNX Association reserves the right to oppose such trademark registrations through the appropriate legal procedures. Such a breach may also result in the withdrawal of the organization's KNX training centre certification and its authorization to organize KNX certified courses.
