The diagnostics function 'individual addresses...' is used to:
- search for device(s) which are in programming mode
- check if a certain individual address exists, in this way locating the device
- check whether the individual addresses in the ETS project match the ones that are loaded in the bus devices.
This function can be invoked via the menu toolbar:
- 'Panels' > 'Diagnostics' > 'Bus Monitoring' or 'Group Monitoring'
- 'Diagnostics' > Bus Monitoring or Group Monitoring
- 'Diagnostics' > Individual Addresses
The operations are divided into three main sections:
- Programming Mode
- Individual Address Check
- Line Scan
Programming Mode
- Lists all the individual addresses of the devices that are in programming mode after you have pressed the programming button of one or several devices (= Programming LED is switched on).
If there are several devices with the same individual address, the quantity is given in the 'Responses' field, e.g. 5 means that there are 5 devices in programming mode. - ETS checks continually whether there are devices in programming mode as long as the Start button is activated.
- A scan can be started or stopped using the Start/Stop buttons.
- The scan is stopped automatically when the panel is closed or when a download operation will be started.
- You can also perform a search in:
- a specific line or segment to narrow down your results and reduce the waiting time
- the whole project, but this might take significant time until it's completed
- The address of the interface that is used for the search is also shown next to the 'Used interface address'
Note:
For KNX TP S-Mode devices: Do not forget afterwards to switch off the programming mode (= programming LED is switched off) of the corresponding devices in order to avoid that more devices are in programming mode on the bus.
For KNX RF S-Mode devices: If the programming mode of such an RF device is not switched off manually, the RF device will automatically do so after 4 minutes.
Individual Address Check
Individual Address
This function checks whether a device with the given individual address exists in the installation and responds. Enter the individual address and click the 'Check If Reachable' button. ETS will indicate the following result after a short period.

Device does not exist |
Device LED
Another possibility to locate a device in the installation is to use the buttons Flash, On or Off:
- Flash: The programming LED of the located device with the given individual address will flash on and off;
- On: The programming LED of the located device with the given individual address will be turned on;
- Off: The programming LED of the located device with the given individual address will be turned off;
Line Scan
Scan
The Line Scan button shows you which individual addresses have already been assigned in a line.
If you wish to find out which individual address has already been assigned in a line, you can press the Line Scan button after having selected the 'Line' that you want to scan.
The individual addresses that have been physically found in that particular line will be displayed, as well as the mask version of the corresponding device.
This task might take some time, so you can abort the scan by pressing the 'Abort Scan' button once you have the information you are looking for.
The scan mode is now derived from the medium type and the path from the interface to the selected target line/segment. Basically it is 'Fast', if any of the following applies:
- the target medium type is RF or PL
- the target medium type is IP and Routing interface is available/selected
- the target medium type is TP and the interface is TP (USB or IP-Tunneling) and the interface is on the same line/segment
Compare to Project
When the Line scan is completed, then the 'Compare to Project' button is made available. It compares the scan results with the ETS project.

The device has been found both in the ETS project and in the actual line.
The device has been found in the ETS project but has not been found (no response) from the actual line.
The device is found in the actual line, but it is not configured in the ETS project.
The device has been found, however it might be a secure device with an unknown key |
Update Prog Flags
When the Line scan is completed, then the 'Update Prog Flags' button is made available. It sets the 'Adr' Flag (= individual address programmed) to all devices of the current ETS project, for which the scan result was positive (those marked with the green icon).
The 3 scan functions, i.e. 'Programming Mode', 'Individual Address Check' and 'Line Scan' cannot be run simultaneously. When one of them is started, the two others are temporarily disabled, until the active one is stopped or completed.
