The Groups Diagnostics wizard allows you to check for possible installation errors at the functionality level, i.e. at group address level.
Please note that there should be an online connection to the bus in order to perform the Groups Diagnostics.
The Groups Diagnostics can be invoked via the project menu bar 'Diagnostics' > Groups Diagnostics
There are four different steps which are checked during the Groups Diagnostics:
- Select Group Addresses
- Check Devices
- Send/Receive
- Bus Traffic Analysis
Before calling the wizard, one or more of the following elements must be selected so that the online diagnostics can be carried out:
- Group addresses (also higher-level areas)
- Group objects
- Devices
In the wizard itself, only one group address can be checked at a time. Please select one single group address to check and proceed. Once the check is finished, you can move backwards in the wizard to the page where you can select the next group address to be checked.

Check Devices
In order to verify that the listed devices are all programmed correctly, click on the 'Check Devices (1)' button. Please note that it is not possible to abort the check once this button is clicked. To locate the device in the installation, just select the device in the list and click on the corresponding LED-icon (3) next to it.
Results
The results of the check are displayed as an icon with a different color in the status column (2):
Icon | Description |
|
If all checks have been successfully executed and have been found to be in order. |
|
If at least one check has failed entirely. The exact error is included as text. |
|
If none of the checks has failed entirely, but at least one check yielded an inconclusive result (example: a device with a plug-in does not implement the intended interfaces and the standard variant of the check failed). An indication of what might be wrong is included in the text. |
The error text includes both what has been found to be inconsistent and what measures can be taken by the user. A detailed explanation of the step 'Check devices' can be found in Groups Diagnostics (detailed).
Send/Receive
This function offers the possibility of setting the datapoint type as well as the value of the useful data and sending it on the bus via the 'Write' (3) button. When clicking on the 'Read' (2) button, the different values received can be read in the 'Received Values' (1) window. A detailed explanation of the step 'Send/Receive values' can be found in Groups Diagnostics (detailed).
Bus Traffic Analysis
This function will analyze the number of telegrams sent on the bus once the 'Start Tracing' button is clicked. Bus load figures are given as relative values (%) and confirmation problems are listed here.
- Current (1) = constitutes the current bus load percentage
- Average (2) = informs you about the average bus load since the start of the recording
- Max (3) = indicates the maximum load during the recording.
If possible, the wizard switches to bus monitoring mode. If this is not possible (because another connection is open or the bus interface does not support bus monitoring mode), a message is displayed saying that some functionality is not available (4).
The window part ‘confirmation problems’ informs on:
- which group address is not acknowledged by at least one receiver (and hence repeated);
- is negatively acknowledged by at least one receiver;
- whether a group address message is answered by a Busy acknowledgment by at least one receiver.
The bottom of the window, i.e. Most active Senders (5), informs which devices contribute to the bus traffic.
Caution: A bus load exceeding 50 % may lead to an increase in communication problems (sporadic malfunctions) in the KNX installation (6).
A detailed explanation of the step 'Bus Traffic Analysis' can be found in Groups Diagnostics (detailed).
