A company that wishes to register a TP cable that is branded with the KNX trademark has to meet certain requirements prior to launching this product on the market:
- The first requirement can be found in Requirements prior to product certification.
- Complete either the 'Manufacturer's declaration on standardized KNX cables' or the 'Manufacturer's declaration on non-standardized KNX cables' (see KNX Cloud).
- Establish an in-house or external test report in which you document the results of the tests performed on the required features of the TP cable as given in Volume 9/1 of the KNX Specifications (Volume 9, Basic and System components/devices, Cables and Connectors). All test requirements and test results in the internal test report shall be numbered according to the numbering available in the Manufacturer's declaration on KNX standardized or non-standardized cables. The company's in-house or external test report shall be compliant with the relevant ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. Restricting test results simply to 'pass' or 'fail' is only acceptable if the standard on which a test is based does not strictly oblige the test facility to document the values during the test and if a result can only be documented by 'pass' or 'fail'.
- Send both the cable declaration form and the test report to KNX Association (certification@knx.org).
- Only after a positive evaluation by KNX Association will the cable be registered. The registration fees for the cable can be found here.
- The test report must subsequently be submitted by you to a KNX accredited test lab for a detailed evaluation of the report. If any evidence of compliance is missing, the test lab may request additional documentation or require you to perform further tests.
- If all is satisfactory, the KNX accredited test lab will issue a KNX test report confirming that the TP cable complies with the requirements as mentioned in Volume 9/1. This test report will be provided to you and KNX Association.
- Once KNX Association receives this test report, it will issue the KNX certificate. Only after this stage may the cable be branded with the KNX trademark.
Note: This document must also be completed in the case of an OEM registration and sent to KNX Association. In addition to the standardized or non-standardized cable declaration form, the OEM client shall provide an official letter from the original cable manufacturer confirming that the cable was supplied to the OEM client as an OEM product. KNX Association will register or certify the cable on the basis of the test report submitted by the original cable manufacturer. Consequently, sections 3–8 are not applicable in the case of an OEM registration.
