Ubuntu/Raspberry PI
AnsweredHello,
I have tried to install ETS Inside onto a vanilla Raspberry PI 4 (2gb ram) following the Installation file instructions for the ARM cpu.
I have tried Raspberry OS and Ubuntu 20.04 for Raspberry with no luck (same error).
When I check the status:

Hi Grant, I have created a support ticket to check that closer. Let's continue there. /Vassilios

Hi Vassilos,
I have been emailing the support desk over that last week but have not received any replies.
I have tried several different Ubuntu OS including including Ubuntu 20.04 (X86) in Virtualbox to see if the issues was with ARM and sent the output to support.
I now have a problem as my home is almost fitted out with 80+ KNX devices and I will soon need to make them operational.
I have the demo version of ETS Professional running on a windows laptop.
Until we can get to the bottom of what is happening can you please provide me with a temporary licence key for ETS Pro that will work with my USB dongle so I can get the gear programed.
Thanks
Grant

Hello Grant, our apologies for this delay, I have triggered it internally. In the meanwhile, since you do have a Windows machine, you can install ETS Inside server on that machine until we solve the issue with Linux.
Best regards,
Vassilios

Hi Vassilios,
Thanks for the quick response, I'll install ETS Inside on Windows and let you know once its running for a temporary key.

Hi Vassilios,
Unfortunately it looks like I'm not having much luck with ETS Inside on Windows 10 (2004 version, all system files updated).
The install went through without issues and the service looked to have started.
When I went to localhost:8081 I got this error:
I have checked Windows Defender and confirm the firewall allows ETS Inside. I rebooted the machine but got the same error.
I also checked from my Mac computer to confirm firewall access was ok and also received the same error:
Interesting if I click "Ok" on the message and then click on the title "ETS Inside Server", I get this error but with some extra content behind (menu):
On the web page I brought up the inspector which just confirmed the server has errored:
Vassilios, I'm very sorry my Windows skill are limited. I mainly use Mac's along with Linux servers and have limited experience in diagnosing issues on windows machines.
Thanks
Grant

Hello Grant, you need the client to access the ETS Inside server. This cannot be done via the browser. Have a look here: https://support.knx.org/hc/en-us/articles/214367425-Installing-the-ETS-Inside-server-on-Windows-10 and https://support.knx.org/hc/en-us/articles/213829529-Requirements-for-the-ETS-Inside-clients.

Hi Vassilios,
That worked, thank you!
I generated a licence key (linux) and it seemed to have taken in the windows version. Fingers crossed it's not in demo mode.
As soon as the linux version is ready please let me know so can get this transferred over in the meantime it's great to know I will be able to commision the devices next week.
Thanks
Grant

Hi Vassilios,
Looks like I'm not out of the woods just yet.
While learning ETS Inside, I am using KNX Virtual to do the exercise.
Everything seemed to be going fine, I was able to get the D4 button to switch on D7 light.
I then tried to get the second button in D4 to dim D0.
At this point ETS Inside kept asking for the "programming button" to be pushed, which I did even though the address 12.0.3 had been assigned.
I then got this error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
After numerous attempt to identify the problem I ended up deleting the project and starting again with just one device - KliX (D4).
I then deleted "C:\ProgramData\KNX\IA.txt to reset KNX Virtual and tried again to program D4, but I am still getting this error:
D4 was program with the address okay:
To see if this was a KNX Virtual issues I then deleted "C:\ProgramData\KNX\IA.txt again and ran the KNX Pro Demo version and created a new project with the same device. This time it programed perfectly, no errors:
I have uploaded the ETS Inside diagnostic report which you can download here if that is of help: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eXjAtvvfCfTHlNheX69Or5ZuY6TP3SS8/view?usp=sharing
Unfortunately the error message gives me little clue as to what is causing the problem and what actions I should take.
Thanks
Grant

Hi Grant,
Unfortunately this is small bug in one of the components used by ETS Professional and ETS Inside. We have fixed it in our internal builds but unfortunately those are not yet released. As a workaround of that problem, you can do the following:
- When you change a parameter in KliX, do not download immediately, but rather close and open the project again.
- Then download.

Hi Vassilios,
That's good to know it's a bug, that will save from trying to solve it.
I did try closing the project and even restarting the computer but could get the changes into KliX. The "Object" error kept coming up. No problem as I was just happy to know the issue and can move on with learning ETS Inside.
I have loaded all the gear we will be using from the catalog into a test project so I could better understanding the Parameters and Objects we had to work with before we start the real install.
Everything worked as expected except the new Zennio Narrow X4 (https://www.zennio.com/products/lighting/narrowdim-x4).
Should I contact Zennio support to help solve this issue or is it something in ETS Inside and if so can I edit the local catalog/config file directly for this device to see if I can identify the issues?
I've downloaded both the German and UK Catalogs incase the issues was with one but not the other, but no luck. BTW I can't use the Australian Catalog as it is missing Gira.
Thanks
Grant

What's the status of this support ticket? I am experiencing the exact same error.
This seems to be a general issue, so please provide the results public, for others.

Hi Mikkel,
I have ETS Inside running on the Raspberry Pi 4 with Ubuntu Server 20.04 (32Bit).The cause of my issues:- ETS Inside is 32 bit and can not run on an ARM 64 bit system (i386 systems seem ok). The answer is to use Ubuntu 32bit.
- libssl1.0.0 was dropped after Ubuntu 18.04. The answer is to install https://ubuntu.pkgs.
org/18.04/ubuntu-main-armhf/ libssl1.0.0_1.0.2n-1ubuntu5_ armhf.deb.html
For a new install I would use Ubuntu 18.04 32bit only as it still has libssl1.0.0.Grant

Grant, I recently got a Rpi4 and I also have a Rpi3. I want to install ETS5 on one. Shoukd I install Windows Arm and then install ETS5 ? I’m clueless with Linux; But do I need it running Linux instead of Windows? Any advice is appreciated.

Shane, I use "ETS Inside" installed on linux but the client is Windows only not browser based. I have to have a Windows OS to use it, how stupid is that!!! Anyway my understanding is ETS5 is windows only. As for ARM CPU I don't know if that will work. You may be best just staying with an Intel laptop.

So I’m brand new to the RPi platform.
I first install Linux? Then ETS Inside on top of that? Did you document your setup. Any suggestions? Thank you :)0 -
There is a video somewhere from the ETS team that shows how to install ETS Inside in linux. The ETS team could direct to to where it is Otherwise see my post above re the issues I had.
