This setting defines the automatic line address assignment of devices. It comes into effect when adding or inserting new devices into a project from the catalog. When a device is inserted into the project and it is assigned to a topology line, the Individual Address (area, line, device) can be assigned automatically. However, when assigning a device to a room, the allocation is not readily apparent. ETS offers two ways of defining the automatic assignment of Individual Addresses.
Global setting; via the Topology panel
An Individual Address is assigned based on the topology structure to which a device is placed. The 'Current Line' setting can be made in the Topology window as follows:
- Select Line
- Open Context Menu (right click)
- Set (If the line is not the current line), devices added later will use the topology template of the line.
- Reset (If the line is the current line), devices added later will not use any template.
Local setting; Via the Buildings panel
An Individual Address is assigned based on the building structure to which a device is placed. This setting can be made, for example, in the Buildings panel.
- Select Buildings/Parts (simultaneous selection of several building elements is permissible)
- Open the Properties Container
- Open a line and set it. Devices subsequently added to these building parts will use the template of the line.
- Reset the current line. Devices subsequently added to these building parts will not use a template.
Cascading
A setting made in a lower-level building part overrides the setting of the upper-level building part. Example:
- Floor 1 (upper level), line address 3.2
- Room 1 (lower level), line address 3.4
- A device is added to Floor 1; the Individual Address assignment is 3.2.x
- A device is added to Room 1-1; the Individual Address assignment is 3.4.x (and not 3.2.x)
Use Cases & Priorities
The priority of the two settings during insertion depends on the location of the insertion. Consider the following cases for the insertion of a device in a project part (column 1):
Insert Device to | Current Line - Settings | Effective Individual Address Setting | Individual Address Result
Project | Building Element
Building Part | not set | not set | Unassigned Devices | -.-.- |
3.4 set | Building Element | 3.4.Fill up (not append!)
1.2 defined | not set | Project | 1.2.Fill up (not append!)
3.4 set | Building Element | 3.4.Fill up (not append!)
Trade | not set | any | Unassigned Devices | -.-.- |
1.2 defined | any | Project | 1.2.Fill up (not append!)
Topology | any | any | Area.Line | Area.Line.Fill up (not append!) |
Devices | not set | any | Unassigned Devices | -.-.- |
1.2 defined | any | Project | 1.2.Fill up (not append!) |
- The assignment rules are applied the first time devices are inserted into a building part (and only then).
- The assignment rules are not applied when devices that have already an Individual Address assigned are moved from one building part to another (even if the other building part has a different assignment). An exception are the devices which do not have an Individual Address assigned (-.-.-) and in this case an assignment according to the rule will be made.
- If you are working in the Buildings panel, the Status Bar displays whether the Current Line is determined by the project or by the building element. The 'source' of the assignment is shown in parentheses () after the address. Examples:
- 0.0 area line (project) -> a building with no assignment/priority
- 3.0 main line (2nd corridor) -> a higher-level building with an assignment/priority
- It is always possible to change the Individual Address manually at the device, however, changing the Current Line has no effect on already assigned Individual Addresses, but only influences new assignments!
