ETS provides an option for Group Addresses which determines how routing should be handled with respect to the topology and couplers.

- The filter setting can also be set at a higher level (Main/Middle Group). In this case, it applies for all subordinate levels/Group Addresses (every local/subordinate setting is essentially overruled by the higher level).
- If the option is set at a higher level, the option can no longer be edited in subordinate elements (it is grayed out).
- Each Group Address can define this option independently (provided the option is not currently active in any higher levels). If, for example, the option of the higher levels is reset, the subordinate elements are again given back the option (state) they originally had.
- Copying or inserting adopts the current option setting of the higher level independently of the respective setting of the element to be copied (example configuration, Main Group (A) = option is set, Main Group (B) = option is not set).
- Copying/inserting a Middle Group in the Main Group (A) = option set on Middle Group (adopted from the higher-level Main Group (A))
- Copying/inserting a Middle Group in the Main Group (B) = option not set on Middle Group (adopted from the higher-level Main Group (B))
