KNX certified courses shall be taught by a KNX certified tutor.
To become a KNX certified tutor, a person shall successfully complete the KNX Tutor course at a KNX++ certified training centre authorized by KNX Association to organize this course. Successful completion of the KNX Basic course and KNX Advanced course is a prerequisite for admission to the KNX Tutor course.
Training centres offering KNX Tutor courses can be found on the KNX website.
Who may teach a KNX certified course?
Both the theoretical and practical parts of a KNX certified course shall be taught by a person holding a valid KNX Tutor certificate. During practical classes, the KNX tutor may be assisted by a person who holds a KNX Partner certificate. The KNX tutor, however, remains responsible for conducting the course.
KNX Association reserves the right to verify the KNX Tutor certificate at any time.
Recommendations for KNX training centres
It is recommended that a KNX certified training centre has at least one KNX certified tutor on its payroll. If a training centre does not employ its own KNX certified tutor, an external KNX tutor may be engaged under the applicable conditions.
For more information, see Hiring an external KNX tutor.
Recommended knowledge and experience for KNX tutors
In addition to the mandatory KNX Tutor qualification, KNX tutors should have appropriate teaching and practical experience.
- Teaching experience: A KNX tutor should have educational knowledge and experience in providing technical training to adults.
- Practical electrical installation experience: A KNX tutor should be familiar with conventional electrical installation techniques. This practical knowledge enables the tutor to explain how KNX is applied in electrical installations and to clearly demonstrate its advantages.
- Knowledge of other building automation systems: A KNX tutor should have a general understanding of other technologies used in building system engineering and building automation. This enables the tutor to explain relevant similarities and differences between KNX and other systems when such comparisons arise during training.
Keeping KNX knowledge up to date
KNX tutors shall keep their knowledge up to date with the latest KNX developments. This can be achieved through activities such as:
- studying the latest versions of the official KNX training documentation made available to certified training centres;
- participating in the KNX Training Centre Conference;
- following official KNX publications and technical information;
- studying KNX product documentation; and
- attending national or international exhibitions and events related to building automation.
