According to Volume 8/1, a manufacturer may replace the physical layer of his product by another physical layer of the same medium provided that the following conditions are met:
Replacing a TP certified physical layer
| Replacement |
Repercussions? |
|
Replacement of a digital transceiver by another digital transceiver:
|
- Re-registration/retesting not required
- Inform the Certification department of KNX Association of this change
|
|
Replacement of a digital transceiver by an analog transceiver (ASIC or discrete solution)
|
- Re-registration and re-testing is required for new combination of analog transceiver and stack
- This implies that the physical part of the Link Layer needs to be implemented in the stack, as analog transceivers only provide a bit interface to the KNX TP Physical layer.
- Extra tests required: In order to check the compliance of this extra implementation, a witness testing is done at the premises of the manufacturer as laid down in Volume 8/2/2 of the KNX Specifications. The following tests will be carried out:
- tests for coding/decoding/collision of the Physical Layer.
- tests for the Physical part of the Link Layer.
