Each training rig used for the KNX Energy Management course shall contain the equipment required for the KNX Basic course, supplemented by the equipment and solutions specified below.
For the equipment that shall already be available on each training rig, see Equipment for the KNX Basic course.
Energy data collection
Each training rig shall include at least one solution for collecting energy consumption or production data.
This can be achieved using one or more of the following:
- KNX electricity meters or submeters, or meters/submeters from which data can be retrieved via a dedicated interface, such as an optical interface;
- KNX/Modbus gateways for retrieving energy data from Modbus devices, such as non-KNX inverters or wall boxes;
- native KNX devices providing energy data, such as inverters or battery storage systems; or
- energy actuators for measuring individual loads, including threshold monitoring and logic functions. If the energy actuator does not provide the required logic functions, an additional logic device shall be available.
Control of loads and energy storage
The training equipment shall allow the control of loads and/or energy storage systems.
This can be achieved using solutions such as:
- KNX/Modbus gateways for controlling Modbus devices, such as non-KNX wall boxes or inverters; or
- native KNX devices, such as wall boxes, battery storage systems, or heat pumps.
Energy management solution
An energy management solution shall be available to process the collected energy data and demonstrate energy management functions.
The solution should support the following functions:
Energy monitoring
Monitoring and visualization of energy consumption, production, and energy flows, such as:
- electricity;
- gas;
- water;
- heat;
- photovoltaic (PV) production;
- electric vehicle (EV) charging; and
- battery storage.
Energy efficiency optimization
The solution should allow energy consumption and production to be optimized through functions such as:
- priority-based control of consumers and producers
- optimized charging of batteries or EVs based on solar surplus or dynamic tariffs
Visualization
The solution should provide a dashboard for displaying:
- real-time energy data;
- historical energy data;
- energy flows; and
- alerts or notifications.
