As explained here, data point types are part of the Group Object configuration.
Since the introduction of ETS5 data point types can also be part of the Group Address configuration. The Datapoint Type of a Group Address can be explicitly set via its properties or implicitly by assigning it to a Group Object.
The advantages of Datapoint Types being part of the Group Address configuration are:
- bus/group monitor: any group telegram can be encoded accordingly
- incompatible Group Objects can be excluded automatically
Important note !!
Suppose that e.g. Group Address 0/1/1 is created but not yet used, i.e. it has so far not been assigned to any Group Object, i.e. its Datapoint Type is not defined yet.
If the ETS user by mistake assigns this Group Address e.g. to a 4-bit object instead of a 1-bit object then the Datapoint Type of the Group Address is based on a 4-bit type (instead of a 1-bit type).
When the ETS user notices the mistake and tries to use the Group Address again for 1-bit objects then this will only be possible after clearing or changing the Datapoint Type of the Group Address via its properties.
