This opens a dialog to change the BCU Key.To do so, the associated project must be open.
Change
Enter a new password once and then click OK to confirm.
Disable
To disable password protection, enter the current password and click the 'Clear BCU Key'.
Procedure
When a BCU Key is set, all of the KNX devices in this project that support this feature will be locked during the download process using this (single) password. These devices cannot be read out or changed later without this password.
- The procedure concerning handling of the password for access to a device by ETS is as follows:
- If a password is set in the project and the device is locked with the same password, there is no query by ETS (the normal case).
- The ETS query should only be issued if the device is locked with a password that is not the same as the project BCU Key. Of, if the password is correct, but ETS cannot reach at least access level 2 with it, (for a definition of the access level, see the KNX Specification; usually 3 are available, 0 .. 2 are required for configuration using ETS).
Notes
- If no BCU Key has been assigned, the text field remains blank. If a BCU Key has been assigned, this is indicated by "llll" in the text field.
- This field is not case sensitive (because in the end, a 0x0a/0x0A always leads to 10d)
- The password can be up to 4 bytes long; the entry must be made in hexadecimal form with a maximum of 8 characters [0-9,a-f,A-F]; e.g. as "11AA00FF" or "11aa00ff" (equals 296354047 decimal).
Caution
- Use this option with care; if the password is lost, those devices shall be returned to the manufacturer. Forgotten BCU Key in the devices cannot be changed or reset externally because this would make the protection in ETS meaningless (of course, the manufacturers know how to do this).
- If the BCU Key is changed after the download process or entered for the first time in the project, it is not available (or updated) in the installation until the respective devices (which support this) are loaded once again. As a result of this procedure, it is theoretically possible for several BCU Keys to be active at the same time in an installation. In the event that the original BCU Key has changed later (for some, but unfortunately not all devices), ETS asks for the (old) BCU Key if access to the device with the new password is unsuccessful.
