When you open, export or work on a project, ETS asks you to install a plug-in (Device Configuration App or product plug-in). But none of the devices in your project need that plug-in anymore.
Cause:
When you add a device to a project, ETS stores its product data inside the project, including any plug-in it references. If you later delete the device, or replace it with a different product or application version, the old product data can stay in the project. ETS still sees the plug-in reference in that leftover data and asks you to install the plug-in.
Solution:
Compacting removes the product data that no device in the project uses anymore, and the old plug-in references go with it.
- Open the project in ETS.
- Go to Project Details.
- Click Compact now.
- Wait for ETS to finish, then close and reopen the project.
ETS should no longer ask for the plug-in.
Good to know:
- Compacting only removes data that no device in the project uses. Your devices, group addresses and parameters are not affected.
- If ETS still asks for the plug-in after compacting, a device in the project is still using it. Check the Devices view for the product that needs the plug-in, then either install the plug-in or replace that device.
- Compacting also makes the project file smaller, so it is worth doing regularly, for example before archiving a project or sending it to someone.
