      Group Object

      communicationObject.png  If you select a device in a window, you will see all its group objects in the Tree View or to the right in the List View.

      The most important column in the List View is the column Group Address. Here, starting at the left, the Group Address links or the functionality are displayed for every Group Object. The Group Address visible to the far left is always the sending Group Address from which a Group Object value is sent to the KNX bus.

      Settings

      Field name Description
      Name

      Name given by the device's manufacturer
      Description User-friendly, longer description (max. 64k characters). You can either enter a description manually or let ETS obtain the description automatically. The content is included in exports and imports.
      Priority Priority of telegrams when sending via this Group Object
      • Alarm
      • High
      • Low (default)
      • System (cannot be set in ETS).
      For RF products, this setting has no effect in the medium. For more information about the priority see here.
      Flags
      • Communication
      • Read
      • Write
      • Transmit
      • Update
      • Read on Init

      Data Type

      The Datapoint Type lets you choose a special format for the Group Object.

      • Assignment of a Datapoint Type to a Group Object is done by selecting one of the available entries.
      • Removal of a Datapoint Type assignment is done by pressing the CTRL button and by selecting any assigned Types.

      • The Datapoint Types that correspond to the selected Group Object length (bit) appear in the list.
      • If a Group Object is already linked with a Datapoint Type, then it is focused directly in the properties of the navigation bar - if there are several Datapoint Type assignments, then the first assigned is the first in the list.

      Default

      This button resets the settings for Priority, Flags and Data Type to the default values (as predefined by the KNX manufacturer).

      Information

      Name Description
      Function Given Group Object function by the manufacturer.
      Length Length of the Group Object in bits.
      Group Addresses

      Table of all the Group Addresses linked to this Group Object with six columns.

      1. Group Address*: Value and Name
      2. Send*:
        • Make this Group Address the sending Group Address
        • Download all devices with this Group Address
        • Unlink the Group Address from this Group Object
      3. Main Group*: Main Group (Value) and Name
      4. Middle Group*: Middle Group (Value) and Name
      5. ACK (PL): Indicates for Medium PL whether this Group Address is responsible for sending the ACK
      6. Central Function: Shows if the Group Address is kept during copy operations (Details)

       * A right click or moving over the entry opens a context menu

       

      • Pressing the insert button when a Group Object has been selected opens the 'Link with Group Address' dialog.
      • When the mouse is moved over a Group Object in the List View, the Group Address name and the number of associations connected with the Group Address are shown in the tooltip.
