Devices in a project are configured using KNX product entries. These contain data (e.g. Application Program version, manufacturer, etc.) certified by KNX Association to ensure their unambiguousness and, in the end, compatibility with the KNX system.
Despite that, there are also data sets in a KNX product database, which - in the sense of the e.g. Compatibility - are not critical, e.g. help texts, parameter texts and their translations and others (e.g. bus current). It is possible to update this data in the ETS project or in the project/product memory (provided that a manufacturer provides this data in a new version).
The most important application case is the addition of new languages or the correction of existing translations by the KNX manufacturer. But also the case for the correct calculation of the bus current of a line is affected (keyword, estimation in the absence of the consumption data of a device).
Where
The associated function for this is available in the catalog in the list view via context menu. They can only be used/active when Online KNX Product Catalog is available and active. Multiple Selection in catalog activates the function if there is at least one update for the selected devices.
Preconditions
- There is a device already in the ETS' product store (e.g. imported locally) or in the project's product store.
- A manufacturer provides for this device an updated KNX product entry via the KNX Online Product Catalog.
A direct (local) import of the new product entry is also possible for this device.
Procedure
KNX product entry contains for the so-called non-registration relevant data an internal version indication. ETS then compares:
- The non-registration relevant data version of the ETS' product store with that in Online KNX Product Catalog.
- The non-registration relevant data version of the project's product store with that in Online KNX Product Catalog.
If ETS detects a higher (or equal*) version of the non-registration relevant data of the device in the Online Catalog, then ETS updates the respective product store(s).
The version of non-registration relevant data from a KNX product data base is not visible in the ETS user interface.* Product entries created for ETS3 did not have any non-registration relevant data versioning. Therefore, implicitly, only one (consistent) version of the non-certification-relevant data is assumed by ETS5. Consequently, starting with products created for ETS4 or higher, can the non-registration relevant data versioning be effectively used. ETS updates also the non-registration relevant data on identical applications, but with different Fingerprints.
