      Two tools are available in ETS for the recording, displaying, analyzing and sending of KNX telegrams in a KNX installation as well as for the reading or sending of Group Address values.

      • Bus Monitoring (recording and analysis of all bus telegrams)
      • Group Monitoring (Recording and analysis of group telegrams. Reading and sending of group address values)

      Both monitors are very similar, but Group Monitoring has two additional functions, indicated below.

      Behavior

      Scrolling

      If the last telegram in the window is selected and further telegrams are received, scrolling occurs automatically. A selection in the middle of the window retains the content of the monitor window (even if receiving continues).

      Open

      Group/Bus

      Opens previously recorded telegrams

      (Enabled only if monitoring is not currently active)

      Supported telegram formats:

      • ETS4, ETS5 Format: *.xml
      • ETS3 Format: *.hlg; *.trx
      Save Group/Bus Saves previously recorded telegrams if monitoring is not currently active
      Print

      Group/Bus

      Allows the printing of selected telegrams or all telegrams via the print dialog.

      Only visible columns are printed; according to their width in percent and in landscape format
      Replay telegrams Group

      Allows previously recorded telegrams (from a file) to be replayed.

      (Enabled only if monitoring is not currently active)

      1. Select the file to be replayed. You can use the Search button to find it.
      2. Select one of the two following options and confirm with OK.
        1. Playback as recorded Plays the telegrams 1:1 according to the recorded trace (default setting).
        2. Playback without delay Plays the telegrams of the recorded trace without the delays between the telegrams.

      Group Functions  Group

      Allows to write/read group values with the option of making several settings.

      (Enabled only if monitoring is not currently active)

      Option Description
      Group Address

      Group Address to be read. Use the button (...) from the right to select a Group Address from the currently selected project.

      The Group Addresses are sorted in the selection box in ascending order according to Group Address value (meaning that the first possible Group Address in the list is 0/0/1). When the first single digit of a Group Address is entered (e.g. MaG 5), a jump is made in the list to the corresponding position (if it’s available).
      Datapoint Type

      Manual selection of a Datapoint Type

      This defines the decoding rules of the Group Address value, which are applied for the decoding (reception of a telegram, read/write operation).
      Last received value The last value that has been received from the bus for the selected Group Address.
      Value  Value to be written, decoded according to the selected Datapoint Type or as a raw value.
      Send cyclically Sends a telegram cyclically. When enabled the delay time (see below) is automatically set to 1 sec.
      Delay time [sec] Delay time in seconds until the first telegram is sent or the interval between two telegrams (0...3600)
      Write Writes a Group Address value to the bus
      Read Reads a Group Address value from the bus

      Window columns

      # Telegram counter
      Time Telegram recording time, displayed in the corresponding format (defined in the monitoring options).
      Service Bus service type; sent (to bus) or received (from bus) telegram.
      Flags

      Control Information; Flags in the bus monitor are marked using BM

      • E: Frame Format (Standard Frame)
      • H: Frame Format (LTE-HEE Frame)
      • R: Repetition
      • a: Acknowledge expected
      • C: Confirmation Flag, set if Acknowledge is negative
      • F: BM; Frame Stop Bit Error
      • B: BM; Data Bit Error
      • P: BM; Parity Bit Error
      • O: BM; Overflow
      • L: BM; Telegram lost
      • S: BM; sequence counter, x=0-7
      Prio KNX Telegram Priority
      Source Address Individual Address of the sender
      Source Name Name of the source (if the monitor is assigned to a project).
      Source Description The description of the source (if the monitor is assigned to a project).
      Destination Address

      The following variants can occur, depending on the telegram “type”

      • For P2P connectionless / connection-oriented communication > Display of the Individual Address
      • For group communication > Display of the Group Address, always in the respective coding of the Group Address structure
      • For (system) broadcast communication > Display of the Group Address (with the value 0), always in the respective coding of the Group Address structure (e.g. 0/0/0)
      • For LTE (Logical Tag Extended) group communication > Display of the LTE zones information according to the KNX specification, e.g. Geographical, Application Specific, General Peripheral *
      Destination Name Destination Name (if the monitor is assigned to a project).
      Destination Description Description of the destination (if the monitor is assigned to a project).
      Route KNX telegram routing counter
      Type KNX telegram APCI service decoding
      DPT DPT value decoding (For more details see here)
      Info

      Additional information about KNX telegram data (memory data read and other data).

      • Information about the start and the end of communication.
      • Decoded value according to the Datapoint Type set if there is a project reference (for display details, see here), decoding can be disabled (e.g. for performance reasons).
      Medium Info Media-specific information; used for PL/RF.
      Security Additional information for KNX Secure telegrams as to which type is concerned (KNX IP Secure = transport security, KNX Data Secure = data security)
