For KNX IP Secure, this (Backbone Line configuration) defines the desired mode of security for the IP medium. The ultimate actual status of the security depends on various boundary conditions.
The possible modes and a sample of the most important interdependencies is listed below:
Option: Off
- Security is disabled
- Devices which are added, do not use KNX IP Secure, even if they support it
Change in status to.. | Action taken by ETS |
On | Query, so that devices which are already assigned and do not support KNX IP Secure - can (must) be parked |
Off | The security key is deleted |
Automatic | The status is set depending on the devices which are already contained in the topology and the device security set there (for KNX IP Secure devices) |
Option: On
- The status of the security is enabled
- Devices which are added must support KNX IP Secure (no other devices can be added)
Change in status to.. | Action taken by ETS |
Off | Query so that KNX IP Secure can be disabled (if the change is being undone, then the old security key of the ETS project is taken again) |
On | The security key is generated |
Automatic | The status is set depending on the devices which are already contained in the topology and the device security set there (for KNX IP Secure devices) |
Option: Automatic
- The security status is to be set in dependence on the added or removed devices (and their security status). The advantage of this Automatic mode is that the final decision as to what security status there will be at the end of the project creation does not have to be made at the beginning of the project (see the example below, a change of status).
- Initial mode upon creation of a project
