Before upgrading to ETS6
Upgrading from ETS5 to ETS6 is straightforward, but a few precautions will ensure your projects transition smoothly.
License availability
Once you upgrade, your ETS5 license will no longer be available for download in your MyKNX account — it is replaced by the new ETS6 license.
Dongle usage
No new dongle is issued for the upgrade. After upgrading, choose one of the following activation methods:
- Dongle-based activation – Activate your ETS6 license on your existing ETS5 dongle.
- Cloud-based activation – Requires a stable, permanent internet connection.

Project backup (mandatory)
Export all ETS5 projects as project or archive files before upgrading. If a backup doesn't exist and your dongle later becomes unusable, recovering your projects will only be possible through the paid Project Recovery Service.
How to Upgrade to ETS6
The upgrade option(s) are displayed in your myKNX account under “Shop → Available Upgrades”, where you can select the license you wish to upgrade to.
If no "Available Upgrades" are shown in your MyKNX account, this means the ETS license you want to upgrade doesn't appear under Account → Products in that account — it may be registered under a different one.
