Concept
KNX Virtual links the (physical) network interface (NIC) of the computer to an IP multicast address of choice, which can be set via the parameter dialog of the IP/TP coupler (D19) in ETS. The default IP multicast address is set to 224.0.23.12.
This means that any KNXnet/IP Router connected to the same IP network and using the same IP multicast address, can (principally) be accessed by KNX Virtual and vice versa.
Requirement
- The extra requirement (besides the NIC and the multicast address) is to create the 'C:\ProgramData\KNX\KV\v26\router.txt' file
- This file shall have the following content:
- Format: '<IP address>:<IP port>'
- Specify the IP address of the local network interface (NIC)
- The IP port is typically: 3671 (default)
- Deleting or renaming this file or moving it to another folder, disables this KNX Virtual feature again
About support
There are however some constraints and circumstances that need to be taken into account in this context:
- Any installed access and/or security policy of the provided IP network: firewalls, VPN, etc.
- Any setting of the involved (physical) KNXnet/IP router(s)
KNX Association can therefore NOT accept support requests regarding this specific feature.
