The local Programming Mode (enable/disable) of a KNX device and the feature to locally signal this, is a mandatory requirement in KNX. A KNX product shall thus have:
- A local way on the HMI (Human Machine Interface) how to control the Programming Mode (like the Programming Button) and
- A local way how to display the state of the Programming Mode (like the Programming LED)
- The local display of the Programming Mode (e.g. Programming LED) is necessary to show to the electrical installer that the Programming Mode is enabled.
- The local display of the Programming Mode is also used for diagnostic reasons in ETS (ETS blinks the Programming LED by switching on and off the Programming Mode repeatedly, so the ETS user can see what device has a certain individual address).
