In this Sidebar container, you can enter options and data to perform a Find and Replace. This article describes how those actions work.
Find
Where
The search will be applied either to the Tree View (on the left) or to the List View (on the right) of the active working panel. The active selection of one of these two views determines in which part the search will be performed.
- The search will always be performed in the currently focused element downwards. If the current focus is somewhere in the middle of the list view, for example, the search will start from this line downwards and ignore any upper lines. If the search returns no results in this lower partial area, ETS asks whether the search should be continued in the upper area of the list (i.e. whenever the search did not start with the first line). This applies for the tree view in a similar fashion.
- At the end of the search, a message appears, and if confirmed, the next search starts automatically from the topmost element.
What
List View
- The search only affects visible elements. A filter set here then has the effect that the results only refer to a portion of the elements in the window.
- Search results are indicated by highlighting.
Tree View
- The search applies to all elements, including the hidden nodes.
- Search results are displayed by selecting the hit.
How
Match whole words only
If selected, the search is performed for whole words only (a search for "90" will not find "900051").
Match case
If ticked, the search only shows cases that match the criterion completely, i.e. searching for "abc" will not find "Abc".
Columns
In a list-view search, ETS will then search through all of the columns by default. You can also restrict the search (and replace function) to one or more independent columns as an option.
Replace
Where
Replacement can only be performed in the List View. In addition, the buttons for the replacement of contents (Replace, Replace All) are only enabled when something can be replaced. For example, in the Catalog (List View) window, nothing can be replaced, and so both buttons there are disabled.
What
- All hits that match the search criteria above
- Replacements only affect visible elements in the List View. A filter set here then has the effect that the results only refer to a portion of the elements in the window.
How
The actions performed are saved in their entirety in the Undo History, which means
- The action Undo Replace causes the last item that was replaced to be undone.
- The action Undo Replace All causes all the replaced items to be undone with one Undo action.
As an alternative, you can also edit individual texts by double-clicking them directly in the filter bar of the list views.
