This article explains the settings for the Data Storage and provides background information on how ETS stores the project data.
- Project Store
- Restore Points
- Project Archive
- Project Access
Project Store
The default path for the project store is 'C:\ProgramData\KNX\ETS6\ProjectStore' and is not possible to be modified.
ETS stores projects on the local hard disk as a set of multiple files for each project. By this, ETS has high-performance access to all uncompressed data. The whole set of files for each local project must be consistent at all times and accessed by one single user only. Therefore, it's not possible to share the local project data via network shares or even via cloud sync services.
Furthermore, there might also be device plug-ins with data handlers involved therefore to avoid data corruption, it is not possible to bypass the export/import procedure in order to transfer/copy projects and/or products from one PC to another.
Restore points
ETS stores the restore points in the project store folder. A restore point is a specific file that contains project information and its filename starts with the project identifier of its related project appended with its creation timestamp. Example: project identifier: P-0AC1, restore point file: P-0AC1_2021-04-09-10-36-31-854.restorepoint. The restore point files refer to local copies of a project, and can therefore not be shared with others users.
For more information about the restore points, see here.
Create restore points: The available options for the restore points are:
- Yes: Creates a restore point every time a project is closed.
- No: No restore points are created at all.
- Ask when closing project: ETS asks every time a project is closed whether a restore point shall be created.
Maximum number of restore points: This setting allows defining the maximum amount of restore points to be created.
Default option: 8. Archiving a project adds an entry in the available restore points, which is not however considered in the max number of restore points from the settings.
Project Archive
ETS compresses any project in the project archive, thereby ensuring its data integrity.
For more information about the project archive, see here.
Directory for the project archive: The location for the project archive can be defined here.
Default directory: C:\Users\Public\Documents\KNX\Archive
Convert ETS5 archive projects: This allows you to use projects that have been archived with ETS. For more information see here.
Maximum number of project versions in the archive: This sets the maximum number of project versions that can be kept in the archive. The maximum number is 10 and cannot be increased.
Collaboration mode: This enables the features of the collaboration mode in the archive.
Optimize Archive: Converts the old archive to a new, optimized format. After the conversion, archived projects cannot be opened in versions prior to ETS 6.3.
Linked Folders
This feature allows you to include several archive folders distributed in the local file system in different locations (e.g. synchronized folders from cloud services or network shares) in your own archive view. This makes it very easy to share parts of the archive (in the linked folders) with colleagues or customers.
For more information see here.
Project Access
This feature allows you to securely store the resulting access keys in your MyKNX account for easy and safe retrieval. For more details, you can refer to the article here.
Store Project Access Keys in MyKNX: If you enable this option, it will automatically store the project access keys in your MyKNX account, ensuring they are secure and easily accessible.
Backup Access Keys: This option helps you back up your access keys and keep them up to date, ensuring that the latest keys are always available when needed.
