A student who does not pass the theoretical and/or practical exam may retake the failed exam at most twice.
Only the part of the exam that the student failed needs to be retaken.
If the student does not pass after three attempts in total, the student shall attend the complete KNX course again before taking the exam again.
Retake only the failed exam
For courses that include both a theoretical and practical exam:
- if the student fails only the theoretical exam, only the theoretical exam shall be retaken;
- if the student fails only the practical exam, only the practical exam shall be retaken;
- if the student fails both exams, both exams shall be retaken.
A previously passed exam result remains valid and does not need to be repeated.
1. Open the original course
In MyKNX, go to Account → Training Centre → Courses
Locate the course for which the student did not pass the exam. Click the person icon next to the course.
2. Open the student's details
Click the magnifying glass next to the student who needs to retake the exam.
3. Select Repeat exam
Click Repeat exam.
Select the exam part that the student needs to retake and click Submit. For example, if the student only failed the practical exam, select 'Only practical.'
The result of the exam part that the student already passed is automatically retained.
4. Complete the retake
- Practical exam: If only the practical exam is being retaken, enter the result of the repeated practical exam in MyKNX and click Confirm results.
- Online theoretical exam: If the theoretical exam is being retaken online, a new theoretical exam is generated. The exam statements are randomly selected by the KNX exam system.

Offline theoretical exam: If the theoretical exam is being retaken offline:
- Click Repeat exam.
- Select Only theoretical.
- Download the newly generated offline .knxexam file.
- Provide this exam file to the student.
- After the exam, collect the corresponding answer file.
- Upload the answer file to MyKNX.

Important
- Do not create a new course: If a student retakes an exam at a later date, do not create a new KNX course. The retake shall always be registered under the original course in which the student took the exam.
- Retakes shall take place at the same training centre: A student cannot retake the theoretical or practical exam at another KNX certified training centre. The exam retake shall be organized by the same training centre that organized the original course.
