Introduction

Every KNX Manufacturer Tool (MT) software product has a lifecycle. This lifecycle:

• Begins when the product is released.
• Ends when a new version within the same Manufacturer Tool family is released or when the entire Manufacturer Tool family reaches its end of life (end of support).

Understanding key lifecycle dates helps you make informed decisions about:

• Updating or upgrading your software.
• Moving your product development and maintenance from MT5 to MT6.

KNX Association's Commitment:

• Provides products with improved functionality.
• Strives to remove vulnerabilities during development.
• Advises that software vulnerabilities may still exist and preparation is essential.
• Recommends manufacturers always install the latest product releases to prevent malfunctions.
• Provides release information via the Release Notes section.
• Notes that older products may not meet current security standards, and security updates may no longer be available for them.

Lifecycle at a glance

Manufacturer Tool 6 (MT6)

MT6 is the current Manufacturer Tool generation and the recommended target for ongoing manufacturer development. Start new development in MT6 and use MT6 as the destination for MT5 migration.

Manufacturer Tool 5 (MT5)

MT5 is in its transition phase. Identify the products and projects that still depend on MT5, prioritize active products and planned maintenance releases, move development and maintenance to MT6, and validate converted projects, application programs, schemas and generated files.
