Each ETS App license can be activated on only one ETS license. If, for example, you need the same App for two different ETS6 Professional licenses/users, you must purchase the App twice and activate each App license separately on its corresponding ETS6 license.
App activation in ETS can be done using either of two license activation methods: Dongle-based or cloud-based.
Dongle-based ETS App activation:
Once the ETS App license is activated on a dongle, it is stored physically on that dongle and cannot be moved to another dongle or converted to a cloud license. For this reason, choose the dongle carefully before activating on it. The dongle can be used on different PCs by plugging it in, as long as ETS6 is already installed on that PC — no internet connection is required once activated.
Cloud-based ETS App activation:
The ETS App license is activated and used via the customer's MyKNX account. It can be accessed from any PC with ETS6 installed by logging in with the MyKNX credentials, but requires a stable, permanent internet connection and cannot be used simultaneously on multiple devices. A cloud-based ETS App license can be converted to a dongle-based App at any time — but not the other way around.

Upgrading ETS Apps from an ETS5 dongle activation to an ETS6 dongle activation
All ETS Apps assigned to your previous ETS version can be upgraded to ETS6 free of charge. For this upgrade path, you keep the same dongle — no new dongle is issued; only the license is re-licensed for ETS6.

Upgrading ETS Apps from an ETS5 dongle activation to an ETS6 cloud activation
In this case, a different ETS App policy applies. Since ETS Apps activated on a dongle are physically stored on that hardware dongle, they cannot be deleted from it. As a result, they also cannot be released for activation in a different mode — in this case, cloud-based activation — as this would result in duplicate App licenses. If you wish to switch your activation mode, KNX offers the same Apps you previously had on your ETS5 dongle for cloud activation on ETS6, at 50% of their original price.
