Certain theoretical and practical parts of KNX certified courses may be delivered online.
Two forms of online learning are permitted:
- Live e-learning – training delivered in real time using an online platform such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex or a comparable solution.
- Self-paced e-learning – training that students complete at their own pace using an online learning platform, recorded or interactive content, simulations, or comparable solutions.

A part indicated with ✓ may be delivered online and can count toward the required duration of the corresponding KNX certified course.
A part indicated with – shall be organized face-to-face (F2F).
The applicable requirements regarding course duration, attendance, practical training and examinations remain unchanged.
Requirements for live e-learning
When a certified part of a KNX course is delivered through live e-learning, the following requirements apply:
- The live training shall be organized by a KNX certified tutor.
- Only students registered in MyKNX for the respective course shall have access to the online training.
- Live training sessions shall not be recorded and subsequently made available online.
- The training centre shall monitor and calculate each student's attendance.
- The complete official KNX training documentation in PDF format shall only be accessible through a username and password provided to students registered for the course.
Online practical training
Where online practical training is permitted for the respective course type, suitable tools and methods shall be used to enable students to carry out the required practical exercises.
Depending on the course, these may include:
- KNX Virtual;
- proprietary KNX simulation software; or
- remote access to a KNX training rig via KNX IP Tunneling.
The applicable practical-training requirements of the respective course shall continue to be met.
Requirements for self-paced e-learning
When a certified part of a KNX course is delivered through self-paced e-learning, the following requirements apply:
- The self-paced e-learning program shall be developed in close cooperation with a KNX certified tutor.
- Each student shall access the platform using a unique username and password.
- Access shall expire after the course has ended.
- After each theoretical chapter, the student shall complete a checkpoint consisting of questions that assess the knowledge acquired.
- Checkpoint questions shall not be taken from the official KNX theoretical exam question pool.
- The student shall successfully complete the checkpoint before being allowed to proceed to the next chapter.
- Students shall have access to support from a KNX certified tutor, for example, through a discussion board, chat or email.
- Questions from students shall be answered within 12 hours.
- The training centre shall calculate each student's attendance.
- The complete official KNX training documentation in PDF format shall only be accessible through a username and password provided to students registered for the course.
