These guidelines will help ensure a smooth license upgrade and keep your projects safe.
Before upgrading to ETS6
Once you upgrade, your old ETS5 license will no longer be downloadable from your MyKNX account. If you wish to keep your ETS5 license, you should not upgrade — instead, order a new, separate ETS6 license.
Before upgrading, make sure to export all your ETS5 projects as separate project files or project archive files (see here: Import & Export and Convert ETS5 archived projects).
Without a backup, recovery is only possible through the paid Project repair service.
When upgrading from ETS5 to ETS6, you will not receive a new dongle. Instead, you can choose between two activation methods:
- Use your existing dongle — Activate the ETS6 license on the same dongle you currently use for ETS5. Both licenses will remain stored on it. However, if the dongle is lost after the upgrade and you request a replacement, the ETS5 license cannot be restored, as it will have been replaced by the upgraded ETS6 license
- Activate via the cloud — Alternatively, you can activate your license via the cloud, which requires a permanent and reliable internet connection but no dongle.
Please choose carefully, as switching back from a dongle license to a cloud license is not possible.
