1. Cloud-Based License
The cloud-based license is designed for flexibility, allowing you to use ETS6 across multiple devices as long as you have an internet connection.
How It Works:
- Access on Any Device: Log in to ETS6 using your MyKNX credentials from any PC. Each time you log in, the KNX cloud verifies your license.
- Device Switching: If you need to switch PCs, log out of ETS6 on one device and log in on another.
Benefits:
- No Hardware Needed: All you need is an internet connection, and you're good to go.
- Flexibility: Use the software from any location or device with internet access.
Things to Consider:
- A permanent internet connection is required to access and use ETS6.
- You can switch from a cloud-based license to a dongle-based license, but this is a one-way switch. Once you activate a dongle-based license, you cannot revert back to the cloud.

2. Dongle-Based License
The dongle-based license provides offline access to ETS6 using a USB hardware dongle.
How It Works:
- Offline Operation: Once your dongle is activated, you don’t need an internet connection to use ETS6. Simply plug the dongle into any PC and start working.
- One-Time Activation: After purchasing the dongle (at an additional cost of €80), you’ll activate it through the ETS6 installation process.
Benefits:
- Offline Usage: No internet is required once the dongle is set up, making it perfect for offline environments.
- Portability: The dongle can be plugged into any PC to activate ETS6.
Things to Consider:
- Once you activate a dongle-based license, you cannot switch back to a cloud-based license.
- If you need both cloud and dongle options, you’ll need to purchase two separate licenses.
